Synopsis:
Once lost to history, the Book of the Wars has resurfaced, and its pages hold ancient secrets and dangers. Former Navy SEAL Leif Metcalfe has been tasked with capturing the ancient text, but a Bulgarian operative snatches it, determined to secure her freedom. When a series of strange storms erupt, they must form an alliance to thwart impending disaster. My Rating:
I totally enjoyed reading this a lot more than I thought I would! The setting of this story was soooo amazing. It was just a stationary location, but global and I totally enjoyed that aspect of the story. You were in a different location each chapter which added to the risks and drama of the story.
The Book of the Wars is an ancient artifact that's back on the rise and everyone wants a piece of it. The race to obtain it is on and two main characters from opposite sides are vying to own it. However, the Book of the Wars is related to much more than one character expected and for the other it's a means to their freedom. I love that the book was related back to Revelation and how scripture, though few, was used.
Leif Metcalfe is a Former Navy SEAL who is pulled back in to head his own crew dubbed the Reapers. Leif is not a typical man, he's a super-powered one with abilities and powers, but upon gaining them he lost some of his memories. Leif was an interesting character. A man of literal mystery. He's strong, but fears his strength. He seeks to do what's right, but may have to question what is wrong. I enjoyed him and his growth.
Iskra Todorova is a woman stuck in a hard place. She's enslaved to a evil man to protect someone she loves. She's a killer, but she has her reasons. I enjoyed Iskra because she's painted as this terrible woman, but as the story progresses you see more of her heart and begin to truly want the best for her.
The romance was actually pretty good. Definitely an insta-love romance, but it took time to brew and develop into something sweet. I was satisfied with their interaction and how they grew to like one another. An enemies to lover kind of romance.
The cast of characters on the Reapers were all amazing with their own personalities. I enjoyed them all, even down the "villains" of the story.
I am excited to read the sequel, Kings Falling and find out what's next in store for the characters.
Blessings,
