A Royal Family by Linda Fergerson {Book Review}

Good morning Gems! Today's post is another book review for one of my new favorite biblical fiction series! I am slowly becoming a MAJOR  fan of Linda Fergerson's writing and her trilogy: The Lion and the Butterfly.

It's action packed, heartwarming and gut wrenching. It's full of biblical truth and many important lessons. You will get attach to each character and each loss will shred your heart.

Such phenomenal writing and I stand firmly behind this trilogy!!! Check out my review of book one (A Royal Dance) before reading this review.

Synopsis:
Jerusalem AD 34. Jerusha desires to bless her husband, Timon with many sons, descendants from Judah. After four miscarriages, she’s haunted by her past and believes she’s cursed.

Her empty womb brings shame. The old women wag their tongues. Without sons to present to Timon, she feels worthless. Unfullfilled. Is Timon’s love not enough?

Throughout Jerusalem, parents are torn from their children and imprisoned for their beliefs. The high priest plots against her family. Jerusha is convinced that no one who touches her cursed life is safe.

In her father’s villa, nestled high on Mount Zion, Timon insists they harbor orphans and widows of persecuted Yeshua followers. The mysterious Roman decree on her door, sealed with her grandfather’s lion and butterfly signet ring, provides their only protection. How much longer before someone rips it down? More intrigue unfolds when Devorah, a beautiful widow, seeks refuge at their villa. A mysterious trader watches from afar. Sudden tragedy strikes.

Jerusha flees and takes a dangerous journey to Shiloh. A divine encounter with Father God forever changes her identity. She returns to a city that overflows with controversy and conflicts. Will the high priest’s plot succeed? Or will she live to raise a royal family?
My Rating
Linda does it once again! She rips my heart out, shreds it to pieces and then tapes it all together with a pretty bow on top...no seriously! Linda is flawless with her writing. She captivates you from the prologue to the epilogue. Her descriptions, the way she writes emotions...it's all just stunning!

This picks up where A Royal Dance ended in that we have Jerusha and Timon dealing with the aftermath of the death of Stephen. They now do his previous job of caring for and protecting widows and orphans. Jersuha deals with a lot more in learning to truly trust God in all that He does. Timon learns to be who God designed him to be.

Jerusha is such a woman of strength and virtue. She deals with MANY loses in this book. Back to back she is hit with betrayal, lose, heartache and let down. She struggles with trusting God and when she does He pushes her to trust Him more. Jerusha is a very relatable character because she doesn't hold back her feelings. She admits how she feels and deals with openly. From having 5 miscarriages to taking in orphan sons as her own, she shows true strength. Jerusha grew so much in the first book in learning to trust men again and allow love to enter. In this book its all about maturing in her faith. Jerusha is definitely a strong female protagonist.

Timon is the epitome of a godly man. He is a man of faith and valor. His heart for God is seen and known among all who met him. He puts the people before himself. He loves his wife despite the loses they face. He never walks away from God and doesn't question God's plan. That ending with him KILLED me ! I was NOT expecting that, but he portrayed the love of God in such a phenomenal way.

The romance was so swoon-worthy! I am a fan of the love between Timon and Jerusha and their marriage. They face a lot of pain in trying to birth their own blood-related children, but they never let go of their love for one another. They don't shy away from flirting with each other which I adore. That ending with Timon made my heart leap. He made sure to provide and protect his wife before things ended. I LOVE their romance.

Antonious, a Roman soilder, is a follower of God and a friend to Jacob and Yogli. I LOVE him! He doesn't mince his words and doesn't shy away from showing his interest in Jerusha! I am rooting for him in the third book. He's also VERY funny! That bath scene between him and Jerusha cracked me up! I can't wait to learn more about him in the final book.

Jacob, Jerusha's father, is back and better than before. He's dealing with some hard choices, but handling them in faith. He always puts God first and leaves room for God to work how He pleases. He's such an awesome father! Yogli is still funny and awesome! I loved the reunion between him and Jacob. That ending tore me (not surprising), but I loved how he managed to live in the end.

Devorah was one character that I strongly disliked at the beginning, but after hearing her story and seeing how she always tried to help Jerusha and her family I grew to like her. I hope she appears in the third book.

Caiaphas is not a main character in this book, but he does have some portions that continue to make me hate him! He plays the role of high priest well, but he also is still a twisted man with his wounded pride.

I loved seeing Moses grow up and his cute romance with Miriam! Sarah...oh my...I cried for baby girl, but she was so inspiring. For a little girl her faith was outstanding!! All the children in this novel just make me happy and have soft place in my heart.

I'm excited to see how things end in book three, A Royal Father. I'm excited for Jerusha's sons. I'm stoked for the romance to come. I'm excited for the family to get together again...I'M READY FOR IT ALL!!

Blessings,

VOTW | Isaiah 41:10 - Ever Present Help

Good morning Gems (& Gents)! This past weekend has been insane in both a good and scary way. I experienced something frightening, but in that situation I felt a sense of peace and contentment that I'd never would have experienced before if my relationship with God wasn't where it is now. As I was thinking of a verse for this week, I came across this one from the book of Isaiah and I knew this was it: Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Such a small, yet powerful verse. This is a command and a promise from our Father whether we are in times of despair or in seasons of gladness. Though told this to the people of Israel, this verse is still true to His children today. Let's start off by breaking down some of the words in this verse shall we: Fear : the Hebrew word is  yare' meaning to cause to frighten ( affright ); to make or be afraid;...

DOI Book Club - Fervent by Priscilla Shirer

Good morning Gems! Today, I'll be sharing with you all one of the exciting things I'll be starting in March and it's a book club! I polled on Facebook and Instagram and had you all vote and the winner was a no-brainer! This is the first Book Club that I’ll be hosting ever and I am so excited. Fervent by Priscilla Shirer won hands down! We’re jumping into the topic of prayer and I’m a big person on reading and learning all that I can about prayer. I don’t know about you all, but my prayer life has its ups and downs. Now for those of you who don’t know, Priscilla Shirer is the actress from the movie War Room ( which I HIGHLY recommend ). She wrote a book for woman based off of the movie. Here’s bit of what to expect from this phenomenal book: “You have an enemy . . . and he’s dead set on destroying all you hold dear and keeping you from experiencing abundant life in Christ. What’s more, his approach to disrupting your life and discrediting your faith isn’t gene...
