Synopsis:
Realtor Hannah Thornton has many talents. Unfortunately, selling houses in the town where her family name is practically poison isn't one of them. When a business tycoon determines to raze historic homes in the small town of Heritage, Michigan, and replace them with a strip mall, Hannah resolves to stop him. She sets about helping Heritage win a restoration grant that will put the town back on the map--and hopefully finally repay the financial debt Hannah's mother caused the town. But at first no one supports her efforts--not even her best friend, Luke.
Luke Johnson may have grown up in Heritage, but as a foster kid he never truly felt as if he belonged. Now he has a chance to score a job as assistant fire chief and earn his place in the town. But when the interview process and Hannah's restoration project start unearthing things from his past, Luke must decide if belonging is worth the pain of being honest about who he is--and who he was.
Taris Faris has crafted such a brilliant contemporary romance that blends faith various levels of relationship from romance to family and friends. This book will gut you and convict you. It will really make you think about your own personal relationships in your life.
Hannah Thornton is a realtor in her town of Heritage, Michigan. She loves her town so much so that she tries hard to save it and keep its historic homes. Hannah is a strong girl, but she harbored some resentment toward her mother that blocked her from seeing God work fully in her life. She was a strong girl, but her strength was her downfall. She tried to do things on her own with what she thought was best. Hannah was funny, kind, reliable and helpful for many except herself. She was also a bit of a nosy person, but with love in mind. I enjoyed her.
Luke Johnson is an orphan that was raised in Heritage. He went through life trying to find where he fits in at. He could never feel settled. He felt empty and had a huge void. I loved Luke because he reminded me of any person that doesn't know their earthly lineage. However, I loved even more that he learned about his Heavenly Father and began to open up. Luke irritated me at times with how he saw himself as less than. Luke was a knight in shinning armor in my eyes. I loved him and his growth throughout the book.
The romance was absolutely amazing. Best friends turned romance with a bit of history. This was a realistic romance between Hannah and Luke. Friends who love each other, but one feeling as if they aren't enough and walking away from the other romantically. They both helped one another in tough times. They both loved each unconditionally. They both grew together and became closer in the end. Let's talk about that scene with the auction !!!!! I LOVED IT and the epilogue was perfect!
Thomas and Janie were a secondary couple in the story. Thomas is Hannah's brother who also stuggles with emotional damage and physical issues. His growth was amazing! Seeing him start to have faith in God and not himself was amazing. Janie is the girl Thomas loved for years, but like Luke, he chose to walk away because of his own thoughts. These two coming together and getting through was amazing to read.
Nate was a wise man! He was man filled with faith. He managed to change the lives of Hannah, Luke and Thomas by sharing the gospel and getting them to Bible study in church. I enjoyed him a lot and can't wait to read his story in the sequel.
The faith aspects were profound! I learned so much from the wisdom that was shared. I loved the way Tari Faris wove scripture into the book and used it to help each of the characters come to their faith.
I am excited to read the sequel when it comes out because that preview at the end of the book made me squeal!
Great read and I definitely recommend it!
Blessings,
