Happy Friday Gems!!!
We are almost down to the wire! Finally starting week five! Only one more week to go before this challenge is completed. Now from start to finish we went through the "basics" and "foundational" points of prayer. This week we are diving into the different things we can pray.
Have you ever had a moment where you were eager to pray, but once your prayer time came you sat and asked yourself what to pray? I've been there before (plenty of times). It can be a struggle to pinpoint something to pray. Throughout this week we will discuss six things you can pray for, almost like a "routine" of sorts.
I pray this helps you!
1. Scripture
The best way to pray when you don't know what to pray is by praying scripture. The Bible is God's Word. His Word never returns back to Him void (Isaiah 55:11) and He can never lie (Numbers 23:19; Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18). Therefore, what better thing to pray than His Word.
When praying scripture you can pray it just as it's written in the Bible or personalize it to fit your need.
Praying scripture helps with the following:
Journaling Prompt
Please be as true to yourself as possible when answering the prompt to get the most out of this challenge.
Today's scripture comes from 1 John 5:14-15:
Spend 3-7 minutes journaling your thoughts, feelings and emotions. Use the prompt.
Verbal Prayer
Take 5 minutes and verbally speak your written prayer. Pray out loud so that He can hear your voice. If your prayer is short, try to add to it. Use the scripture to pray today.
Listen
Sit quietly in a position that will not make you tired and wait on God. You may feel His presence, you may hear from Him. If you do, write down what He says or what you're feeling. Give yourself at least 2 minutes of pure silence to be able to hear from and feel God. This is a conversation, not a rant. Allow Him the opportunity to speak to you after you've spoken to Him.
Let's end in prayer...

Praying scripture helps with the following:
- not being repetitive in your payers.
- your prayer life not becoming dull.
- the confusion of what to pray.
- the fear and/or feeling like your prayers are wrong.
- helps your confidence with and in praying grow.
Praying the Scriptures allows you to use the words and emotions of the Bible to gain more confidence in your prayers. It's making your prayers centered around the Word of God.
How do you pray scripture? Grab two or three of your favorite verses and pray them making sure to reverence God. Make them personal to you or the person you're praying for. Get vulnerable and add to the prayer based on what the scripture is about.
Praying scripture is one of the BEST ways to pray because it ensures that your prayers are aligned with God's will.
Here some scriptures you can personalize and pray over yourself and others:
- 1 John 4:4
- 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
- Luke 10:19
- Psalms 91:1-4
- Psalms 143:8
You can pray any scripture that calls to you, but make sure your heart posture is in the right place when doing so. Make it sincere and heartfelt.
Great thing about praying scripture is that you can never go wrong with praying His Word to Him.

Heavenly Father, we know that Your Word never returns to You void. We understand that when it comes to praying we can simply pray Your Word over our lives and that of others. Help us to grow in our confidence and prayer life as we begin to pray Your very Word more consistently. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
