A Complex and Compelling Glimpse at One of the Bible's Baddest Girls
Life is not easy in Philistia, especially not for a woman and child alone. When beautiful, wounded Delilah finds herself begging for food to survive, she resolves that she will find a way to defeat all the men who have taken advantage of her. She will overcome the roadblocks life has set before her, and she will find riches and victory for herself.
When she meets a legendary man called Samson, she senses that in him lies the means for her victory. By winning, seducing, and betraying the hero of the Hebrews, she will attain a position of national prominence. After all, she is beautiful, she is charming, and she is smart. No man, not even a supernaturally gifted strongman, can best her in a war of wits.
My Rating
I enjoyed this story about Delilah and Samson. I've heard about their story in the Bible, but never read or studied it myself. I enjoyed how much research went into bringing their story to life. Angela has such a way with creating a beautiful story with so much depth.

Delilah was a sweet girl who dealt with some terrible situations. Once her step-father died her step-brother, who disliked her and her mother, sold her mother off and kept Delilah as a slave and toy. She was mistreated, humiliated, abused and misused. Instead of learning to forgive, her hatred brewed within her making it hard for her to truly live. I enjoyed seeing Delilah struggle and come out with a clear understanding of who God was at the end of the story. Her struggles were not beautiful. She wore her wounds on her sleeve and though she thought she could heal them she couldn't. Reading this and seeing how God used Delilah to use Samson to help free His people was absolutely remarkable.

Samson, a judge for the people of Israel, was a stubborn man that tried to use his "gift" as an excuse to live life. I loved seeing him get angry and try to get away with his choices. He thought because he was chosen that he was outside the standards God gave the people. Samson had a lot to learn and he had to learn the hard way which resulted in him doing things God's way and losing his life. He was a brilliant, strong and faithfully man who made many mistakes, but he was pure.

My favorite quotes
"And I realized that sometimes Adonai says no for our own good." - The widow

"Adonai never wounds His people without also making preparation for their healing." - Rei

"I had though that I could strip Samson of his faith by eliminating the outward symbol of it, but I was wrong. Samson's faith went deeper than his scalp, deeper than even his emotions. He did not merely believe in Adonai; he knew his God and trusted completely in His purposes." - Delilah
Overall, I enjoyed it and can't wait to read the second book in the Dangerous Beauty trilogy.

Blessings,

VOTW | Isaiah 41:10 - Ever Present Help

Good morning Gems (& Gents)! This past weekend has been insane in both a good and scary way. I experienced something frightening, but in that situation I felt a sense of peace and contentment that I'd never would have experienced before if my relationship with God wasn't where it is now. As I was thinking of a verse for this week, I came across this one from the book of Isaiah and I knew this was it: Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Such a small, yet powerful verse. This is a command and a promise from our Father whether we are in times of despair or in seasons of gladness. Though told this to the people of Israel, this verse is still true to His children today. Let's start off by breaking down some of the words in this verse shall we: Fear : the Hebrew word is  yare' meaning to cause to frighten ( affright ); to make or be afraid;...

DOI Book Club - Fervent by Priscilla Shirer

Good morning Gems! Today, I'll be sharing with you all one of the exciting things I'll be starting in March and it's a book club! I polled on Facebook and Instagram and had you all vote and the winner was a no-brainer! This is the first Book Club that I’ll be hosting ever and I am so excited. Fervent by Priscilla Shirer won hands down! We’re jumping into the topic of prayer and I’m a big person on reading and learning all that I can about prayer. I don’t know about you all, but my prayer life has its ups and downs. Now for those of you who don’t know, Priscilla Shirer is the actress from the movie War Room ( which I HIGHLY recommend ). She wrote a book for woman based off of the movie. Here’s bit of what to expect from this phenomenal book: “You have an enemy . . . and he’s dead set on destroying all you hold dear and keeping you from experiencing abundant life in Christ. What’s more, his approach to disrupting your life and discrediting your faith isn’t gene...
