Synopsis:

Can a Canaanite harlot who has made her livelihood by looking desirable to men make a fitting wife for one of the leaders of Israel? Shockingly, the Bible's answer is yes.
Pearl in the Sand tells Rahab's untold story. Rahab lives in a wall; her house is built into the defensive walls of the City of Jericho. Other walls surround her as well--walls of fear, rejection, and unworthiness.
A woman with a wrecked past; a man of success, of faith...of pride. A marriage only God would conceive! Through the heartaches of a stormy relationship, Rahab and Salmone learn the true source of one another's worth and find healing in God.

I adored this story of Rahab and Salmone! This was full of so many biblical truths and taught me so much about how I view myself vs how God views me. The story of Rahab can be found in the book of Joshua.

Rahab was betrayed by her father at the age of 15 because they couldn't tend to their grounds. She was sold into prostitution. She didn't want to go to the temple to be one so she decided to go about it her own way. Though she was "forced" into it she never carried herself as such and she made sure to limit the amount of lovers she had along with finding a means for work by opening her own inn. As Canaanite woman in Jericho she knew she never fit in with the other women but she was quiet sure why. It wasn't until she learned about the true God and how her people and their pagan gods were foolish, weak and selfish.

Rahab was a true woman of faith. She had more faith in God then some of the Israelites did. She believed and trusted Him. She had a pure heart despite her own misfortune and upbringing. She knew that the Lord would help the Hebrews prevail against her people she so she was prepared to give up everything to help them. Rahab was a woman that cared deeply for the Lord, but she was wounded badly in her heart. Watching her grow and learn about God and be open to true love was fantastic. She was phenomenal.

Salmone was when of the leaders of the Hebrew. He was over the tribe of Judah. He was the right hand man to Joshua. Though he was a man of God, he was also pigheaded and judgmental. I enjoyed watching Salmone learn about himself from a man he admired. He was a stubborn man, but I think that's what made him the perfect man for Rahab.

The romance between Rahab and Salmone was definitely one ordained by the Lord Himself. They were the key to each others heart and true love. Rahab had never been in love -- she was betrayed by men time and time again so she never knew what love was. She was also "ruined" so couldn't think of ever being married. Salmone was previously married, but his wife didn't give him that spark he desired. He thought to never really marry again. Salmone was given to Rahab to repair her and Rahab was given to Salmone so that he could know what a true treasure of God was. They were perfect in their imperfectness. I loved their romance and watching it bloom to an interesting marriage.

Pearl in the Sand was the perfect title for this book and I highly recommend it! The biblical wisdom in this book was just amazing! I am truly a fan of Tessa Afshar's writing now and plan to read In the Field of Grace next.

VOTW | Isaiah 41:10 - Ever Present Help

Good morning Gems (& Gents)! This past weekend has been insane in both a good and scary way. I experienced something frightening, but in that situation I felt a sense of peace and contentment that I'd never would have experienced before if my relationship with God wasn't where it is now. As I was thinking of a verse for this week, I came across this one from the book of Isaiah and I knew this was it: Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Such a small, yet powerful verse. This is a command and a promise from our Father whether we are in times of despair or in seasons of gladness. Though told this to the people of Israel, this verse is still true to His children today. Let's start off by breaking down some of the words in this verse shall we: Fear : the Hebrew word is  yare' meaning to cause to frighten ( affright ); to make or be afraid;...

DOI Book Club - Fervent by Priscilla Shirer

Good morning Gems! Today, I'll be sharing with you all one of the exciting things I'll be starting in March and it's a book club! I polled on Facebook and Instagram and had you all vote and the winner was a no-brainer! This is the first Book Club that I’ll be hosting ever and I am so excited. Fervent by Priscilla Shirer won hands down! We’re jumping into the topic of prayer and I’m a big person on reading and learning all that I can about prayer. I don’t know about you all, but my prayer life has its ups and downs. Now for those of you who don’t know, Priscilla Shirer is the actress from the movie War Room ( which I HIGHLY recommend ). She wrote a book for woman based off of the movie. Here’s bit of what to expect from this phenomenal book: “You have an enemy . . . and he’s dead set on destroying all you hold dear and keeping you from experiencing abundant life in Christ. What’s more, his approach to disrupting your life and discrediting your faith isn’t gene...
