Wednesday Word | Perfect Faith

Good morning Gems!

I hope you are all having a fantastic week and are looking forward to the weekend. I am. It's only the middle of the week, but I need to reboot and really get myself in order within my bedroom and within my mind. I feel so cluttered, even so that I almost didn't have a blog post for today, but as I was scrolling the Internet one thing popped up and stuck in my mind overnight.
Perfect Faith...it's something I'm sure many, if not all, of us have asked one time or another. Does my faith have to be perfect? Do I need perfect faith? It's hard think to ponder at times for new believers and even seasoned ones.

Some people equate a perfect faith to being perfect themselves, but that is not the case. When you look at it that way you begin to feel guilt, shame, unworthy and other uncalled for feelings. We will never be perfect because we were all born in sin, so don't equate perfect faith to being perfect. We sin, we do wrong, we don't listen and even ignore God at times.

The truth of the matter is we can all have perfect faith without being perfect. No human is perfect. We all fall short (Rom 3:23) and we all have moments where we succumb to our flesh. Perfect faith isn't something that's complicated or far-fetched. It's a lot easier than we believe it to be.

How can you obtain perfect faith? It's simple!

Jesus says it clearly in Matthew 17:20
"...if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
Jesus knew that we were not perfect -- I mean He walked among us and experienced humans upfront. He knows we have moments when we get angry, where we lie or even doubt. He understands it. Though He was perfect in every way -- sinless, blameless and pure to His core -- He gets our emotions.

Though I've said the word faith many times, let's break it down modern terms. The Webster's dictionary gives three definition that all mean the same thing, but have different wording:
  1. allegiance to a person
  2. sincerity of intentions
  3. firm belief, trust and loyalty in something or someone for which there is no proof
Sums up to having a strong conviction in God. Seems pretty accurate according to the Word doesn't it?

Now the biblical definition of faith can be seen in Hebrews 11:1:
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
This means that it is trusting in God without proof. You trust Him irrevocably and wait expectantly on Him to do His will in His timing. Now waiting expectantly requires that you have patience as well (but that's a topic for another day).

The Bible also says, in 2 Corinthians 5:7:
"For we walk by faith, not by sight."
Looking at this verse and Hebrews 11:1 you can see that we can not hope in something that we already know is going to happen. It defeats the purpose of hoping. We hope in things we expect to happen. It's like when you're taking a test in school or applying to college. You don't know what will happen because you don't know the answer or if you'll get accepted. Only thing you can do is hope to have passed or been accepted. You have faith in yourself and hope for the best.

Well, as I said, perfect faith is simple, but we, as humans, make it hard because we battle daily with our flesh and temptation.

Put your hope in God. Make Him your trust. Understand that your faith, no matter how big or small, is simply perfect because you have it. While you are living out your faith, wait patiently on God to act on His timing.

There are times where I feel like my faith isn't perfect because I start to play the comparison game, but I realized that my faith is my faith. God knows my heart and He knows me. He created me and understands me. My faith my seem small to me, but for God that faith is perfect enough for Him to work. My faith is already perfect enough for Jesus to teach me new things.

Perfect faith isn't rocket science. Don't let anyone tell you that your faith isn't perfect because it is. Your faith in your current season is perfect for God. Now you just need to believe and understand that your faith is perfect. You can continue to perfect it and even ask Him to help you increase it, but it'll never be imperfect in the sight of God. Hold fast to your faith.
"Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith...Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for He is faithful that promised." - Hebrews 10:22-23
In a nut shell perfect faith is NOT about you being perfect because in all honesty you never will be. Perfect faith is faith that moves us to trust Him when He doesn't seem to be moving.

I pray this post reached someones heart today and I pray that you all have a beautiful day. Thanks for reading!
