Hey Gems! I pray you all had a blessed week at work and/or school.
Today's post is a Bible tip that I personally find useful and so do many other Christians. Do you sometimes read your Bible and wonder how you can remember something specific like a date, a person, location, favorite verse or a command from God? Well, I'm going to help you out today with a quick tip!
Yes that's right! Color coding is not just for your homework or the office. You can color code in your Bible as well. Color coding your Bible is a great way to keep track of certain things you want to remember or pinpoint. I'm a color code fanatic! I find it not only helpful to color code in my Bible, but it also makes it pretty as an added bonus.
What is the color coding method?
The color code method is a method in which you mark certain details by a specific color and every time that word or detail pops up in the Bible you highlight or underline in that specified color.
What materials do you need?
The basic tools you need to start color coding are as follows:
Do you need a pre-made chart?
No, you don't need a pre-made color coding chart to start. You can make your own chart by giving a color to a specific thing. For me I used the following when I made my own:
If you are interested in using a pre-made chart, here's one from Good Morning Girls that I find that I use a lot in my NLT Bible:
2) Read the passage through a second time (or more), but this time highlight and color code according to how you have your system or the chart you are following.
Don't rush when you are reading because there will be times when a verse or word seems like it can go with more than one color. It's all about really picking which color it goes best with from your understanding and the tone of the surrounding verses.
Hope this tip helped you all out and I pray you all have a blessed weekend ahead of you!

What materials do you need?
The basic tools you need to start color coding are as follows:
- Bible (in a translation you can understand)
- Colored pencils (can substitute with either gel highlighters or gel pens)
- Notebook (for extra notes or while you're doing your Bible study)
- Index card (optional to write down your color code system)
Do you need a pre-made chart?
No, you don't need a pre-made color coding chart to start. You can make your own chart by giving a color to a specific thing. For me I used the following when I made my own:
Pink - love, family, relationships, fruit of spirits
Orange - command, instruction
Purple - wisdom, teaching
Green - promises, blessings, faith
Blue - warnings, temptation
Light Blue - prayer, salvation, repentance
Red - God, Jesus, Holy Spirit
Gold - prophecy, miracles
Brown or Silver - Satan, sin, death, hell, evil, hypocrisy
Yellow Highlighter - stands out
If you are interested in using a pre-made chart, here's one from Good Morning Girls that I find that I use a lot in my NLT Bible:
I find that this chart from Good Morning Girls is very easy to use. This chart can be used as a starting point in creating your own system.
Now, the basic steps to using the color code method in your Bible are simple:
1) Read the entire passage through one time without highlighting or color coding.2) Read the passage through a second time (or more), but this time highlight and color code according to how you have your system or the chart you are following.
Don't rush when you are reading because there will be times when a verse or word seems like it can go with more than one color. It's all about really picking which color it goes best with from your understanding and the tone of the surrounding verses.
Color coding is great for those of you who are visual learners or love to mark up your Bibles. It's a great way to really dissect the Word of God as you study it. Color coding for me goes hand-in-hand with Bible marking such as underlining, boxing, circling, bracketing or staring important things as I read and study the Word. You can use color coding with Bible marking or separately from your regular markings in your Bible. However you decide to use color coding, I highly suggest you give it a try because it makes understanding the Bible much more effective.
Hope this tip helped you all out and I pray you all have a blessed weekend ahead of you!
Thanks for reading!
